Center City Housing Corporation

The young children in Center City’s supportive housing have already traveled a hard road. Their last “home” may have been a shelter, a car, or the street. They, more than most, need attentive care from trusted adults.

Center City Housing serves families working to escape homelessness. At any given time they include roughly 80 kids, most age five and under. In the past, the Duluth nonprofit only had the resources to work with school-age youth.

Recent Northland Foundation grants have helped Center City pilot new programs for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

More than just money, Northland also connected Center City to early childhood professionals with expertise in social-emotional development. Members of the Northland Foundation’s Thrive Initiative, focused on infant and early childhood mental health, consulted with Center City to address the unique needs of families in transition.

The child care and family home visiting launched by Center City have taken hold and are set to expand. With a solid nonprofit, funding, and close collaboration, the youngest victims of poverty have a better chance at a bright future.

Last year, the Grant Program awarded 187 grants totaling $1,105,289. Select from the following menu to review grants by category or all grants together.
