Thrive Meeting: Two Circle of Security Workshops
"How do you DO the Circle of Security?" presented by Deidre Quinlan and Lynn Henderson
Lunch served starting at 11:45 a.m.
Attend one or both, and join us for lunch.
It’s one thing to learn about the Circle of Security, but how do you do the Circle of Security? Come to this experiential workshop for answers to this question, and to practice some of the skills needed to use the Circle of Security. Everyone is welcome to attend both sessions.
9:00-11:45 a.m. - Introducing the Circle of Security
The morning session is an opportunity for those who have never attended a training or workshop and are interested in learning more or for those who can never get enough Circle talk. We will provide an introduction to Circle of Security and the reflective process and try to answer the question, “What is the Circle of Security and how do you do it?” We’ll start with a simple overview and then have opportunities to practice using the protocol.
Lunch 11:45 - 12:30
12:30-2:00 p.m. - Making Sense of Cues and Miscues
The afternoon session is for those who have attended an introductory training and want to learn more. We will take a deeper dive into thinking about one of the tools central to understanding the conceptual framework of Circle of Security (COS), cues and miscues. To best use COS, the trick is to know if you are seeing a cue or miscue. With this knowledge, problematic behavior is recast as miscommunication of a need and, rather than trying to find ways to change the behavior, we’re using the Circle and finding helpful ways to meet the need. This workshop will focus on developing this skill.
