Northland Foundation Make a Gift

Ann and Tom Rider

As co-owner of Lutsen Mountains Ski and Summer Resort along Lake Superior's storied North Shore, Tom Rider has spent the past 30 years building a successful business. For him and his wife, Ann, success isn't so much defined by personal financial gain but by creating sustainability, providing steady, well-paid jobs, and using their gifts and good fortune to lift up the entire community.

In 2011, Tom brought his love for the region, ethos for serving others, and strong financial mind to the Northland Foundation's Board of Trustees. He contributed greatly during his nine years on the board, including chairing the Finance Committee and two terms as Board Treasurer. At the end of his tenure, he opted to stay connected to the foundation as a member of the Emeritus Trustee Group.

In addition to Tom's diligent service on the Board, the Riders donated annually during Tom's tenure. They also chose to designate a legacy gift in their estate plans. What inspires such purposeful service and generosity?

"All my life, giving back has been important to me," explains Tom. "I know the Northland Foundation does an incredible job delivering resources and addressing needs in intelligent, creative, and cost-efficient ways. The region is a better place because of the work of the Northland Foundation."

In fact, the region is a better place because of honorable, big-hearted people like Tom and Ann Rider.
