In October, the Northland Foundation added two new staff positions at each of the three Northland Village Assisted Living Communities. Hedin-Borglund earned her LPN from Duluth Area Vocational Technical School (Lake Superior College) and her nursing degree from Hibbing Community College. She has an extensive background working as a nurse and nurse-manager in assisted living facilities in the region, as well as home care and long-term care work experience.

The new Health & Wellness Coordinators will partner with Northland Village residents, the direct care staff, and their nearby communities to plan activities and events that meet a wide array of interests and needs. They will also work to create more opportunities for interaction between Northland Village and the surrounding area. The Kitchen Coordinators will oversee menu planning and meal preparation, kitchen sanitation, and food purchasing with a goal to ensure consistently tasty, healthful meals and snacks that residents and guests will enjoy.

“It’s a privilege to be a member of these small towns, and our goal is to not only be good hosts for the seniors who live at Northland Village but also to be good neighbors.” -Brad Sandnas, Director of Assisted Living

Northland Village is a community investment of the Northland Foundation within its longtime priority area of Aging With Independence. The Foundation built and operates three assisted living facilities which are located in the rural communities of McGregor, Buhl, and Hoyt Lakes. Assisted living is part of the Foundation’s mission to provide high-quality senior living options in small northeastern Minnesota communities so that older adults can continue to live as independently as possible near family and friends.
