Target Foundation Renews Support to Advance Economic Equity Across Northeast Minnesota

The Northland Foundation has again received a $100,000 grant from the Target Foundation, marking a continued partnership to foster thriving rural communities and Native nations in northeast Minnesota. This latest investment supports the Foundation’s Advancing Economic Equity initiative, which strengthens small businesses, Indigenous communities, and nonprofits serving under-resourced populations.

With Target Foundation’s ongoing support, the Northland Foundation will:

Strengthen nonprofit capacity through training, technical assistance, and financial resources designed to help build resilience and sustainability among organizations serving rural communities and/or led by or serving historically overlooked, under-resourced communities.

Deliver expert business consulting and technology training for small business owners—helping entrepreneurs access capital, adopt innovative tools such as artificial intelligence, and grow in a competitive marketplace.

Expand the Maada’ookiing program, supporting Indigenous individuals and communities in advancing self-determination, cultural vitality, and Tribal economic diversification.

“We are grateful to the Target Foundation for its strong, continued commitment to help expand economic opportunity across our region,” said Tony Sertich, President of the Northland Foundation. “Together, we’re helping more people, businesses, and communities thrive.”
