NORTHLAND ASSISTED LIVING

Since 1986, Aging with Independence has been a core Northland Foundation priority, driving funding and leadership support for a variety of projects, programs, and services to improve the lives of older adults in the region. In 2006, longstanding interests in older adults, thriving rural communities, and economic development came together in the form of a new enterprise whose vision is to:

• Enable seniors in rural communities to age in place, near family and friends, and remain as independent as possible;
  

• Help small communities retain their population and remain vibrant and viable;

• Offer stable, meaningful jobs that provide competitive wages, health insurance and retirement benefits, and ongoing training; and

• Provide quality of place and care that does not discriminate between private pay residents and residents who receive financial assistance.

With the full support of the Board of Trustees, the Northland Foundation launched Northland Assisted Living. A 20-unit residential style community for older adults, Northland Village – McGregor’s Assisted Living Community, opened in April 2007, joined by a second site, in Buhl, in February 2009. In May 2011, the Northland Foundation was pleased to add a third Northland Village community, in the city of Hoyt Lakes. Currently Northland Assisted Living employs 75 administrative and direct care staff.

All locations offer 20 private suites along with welcoming living, kitchen-dining, group activity, and outdoor spaces. Hoyt Lakes also offers a hair salon, accessible private bathtub room, and resident laundry. High staff-to-resident ratios, social and recreational activities, home-cooked meals, housekeeping, laundry, and emergency call system are among the many standard amenities. Older adults in rural communities now have more options for a comfortable place to call home.
