It’s been an exciting, eventful 25 years – years of growth, new opportunities, overcoming challenges, and building trusted relationships at the local, regional, state, and national levels.

When the Northland Foundation was created in 1986, the country was caught in the wake of a major recession, similar to economic circumstances today. Our mission then, as now: to strengthen families, grow a sustainable regional economy, cultivate leadership and philanthropy, and foster respect for all people.

Over the years we have awarded more than 3,000 grants to nonprofits totaling over $24 million, provided $45 million in financing to businesses, secured $25 million to support our KIDS PLUS Program impacting 53 communities, developed assisted living for older adults in three rural communities, and grown a permanent endowment for the region. None of this could have happened without countless friends and partners willing to share their time, talent, and treasure.

This is not the time to rest on our laurels but instead to address social, human, and economic needs with new vigor and innovation. We look forward to continuing our work for decades to come with the support of generous community and funding partners to ensure a thriving future for this region.
