Chuck and Jori Walt
At Chuck and Jori Walt’s rural lake home, visitors immediately feel welcome. There is coffee ready, a plate of treats beckons from the counter, and the couple’s genuine kindness puts everyone at ease. You get the feeling that any stranger is just a friend they haven’t yet gotten to know.
The two lifelong “northland” area residents attended college, worked, and raised their family here. Chuck is a member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, and he devoted his 34-year career to Tribal work. Jori shared her love for the arts teaching music for 30 years in local schools.
Retirement is fulfilling and busy. There is time for golf and boating, yes, but when a relative or friend is in need, Jori and Chuck are there helping with projects or hosting get-togethers. They are in the thick of things – not only with their immediate circle but also in the community.
Jori is an enthusiastic supporter and board member of the Lucius Woods Performing Arts Center. Chuck has been a volunteer fire fighter and emergency responder for over 30 years. Finding ways to give back, they say, brings them joy.
This August, the couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with their two grown children, their partners, and five grandchildren. Astoundingly, Chuck and Jori have been connected to the Northland Foundation for more than half their married life!
Chuck served on Northland’s Board of Trustees from 2003 to 2012 and, since 2015, has been part of the Emeritus Trustee Group. The Walts are also Legacy Friends, having included a future gift to the foundation in their estate plans. This lasting commitment to the foundation is just one more example of how they live their values.
“It is especially gratifying to see Northland continuing to support early childhood and youth development, looking to the next generations. Recent programs like Maada’ooking are also exciting opportunities that we are eager to see grow.” — Chuck Walt.
Their daughter, Jamie Adams, carries on the family tradition. She volunteers with the Northland Foundation Youth In Philanthropy program and, following in her dad’s footsteps, is a current Board Trustee.
Chuck and Jori’s heart for serving others contributes to a more welcoming home, community, and region. The coffee is on, and there is always room at the table.
